ENGLISH CLASSES |
English 6 (6th grade)
This course is a combination of grammar, literature, and composition taught from a Biblical world view. The Abeka grammar curriculum, as well as various literary selections, will be covered. |

English 8 Literature and Composition (8th grade)
This course is geared for those who have a strong grammar background and desire to develop writing skills through essays, creative writing and a research paper. The text is the Prentice Hall series Silver edition. |

English 9 Literature and Composition (9th grade)
This course will focus on the fundamentals of writing utilizing a portfolio of academic and creative writing, including a research paper. Utilizing the Prentice Hall World Literature text, the literature will be an overview of major epics and writings, taught from a Christian world view. |

British Literature and Composition (10th-12th grades) (CLEP)
Taught from a Christian world view, utilizing the Prentice Hall series, this class will conduct an overview of British literature. In addition to reading Shakespeare plays, students will perform scenes from various plays in a CEC Shakespeare Festival. Students will develop both creative and academic writing skills, culminating in a research paper and oral presentation. Students will read additional novels and record them in the Reader’s Journal. Includes preparation for the CLEP in British Literature. |

SAT English Preparation/Grammar (10th-12th grades)
Based on the Abeka Grammar text, students will master the parts of speech. Students will be quizzed weekly from the SAT Vocabulary supplement. Students will study in-class exercises on SAT test taking techniques and take practice SAT tests. The Reader Journal will also be used. |
MATH CLASSES |
Enrollment in math classes is based upon results of a Placement test required of all new students at an additional cost of $10 per student (dates and times scheduled with the instructor). Those students already enrolled in math classes at CEC need not take this test. Their placement is based upon their previous year’s progress.

Financial Peace for the Next Generation by Dave Ramsey.
Designed to apply mathematical concepts to real-world life situations, the prerequisite is Algebra 1 with integrated geometry. We will also participate in the "Take Stock in Kentucky" stock market simulation as well as weekly discussion in current economic issues. Independent projects are included. |

This course is designed for students who would like specific problem practice in using the math concepts they've learned through traditional math curriculums as well as assistance in test-taking techniques for the SAT math tests. Utilizing a weekly "workshop" approach and a nationally-standardized SAT workbook, students will complete weekly practice problem assignments. There will also be practice SAT tests. |

This class will cover all aspects of physical, political, and social geography. Utilizing the Abeka text, introductory high school level note-taking, periodic current events, research projects and oral presentations are included. |

Taught from a Christian perspective, this class provides an overview of world history from the Industrial Revolution through the Modern Age. Students will learn to take notes, complete weekly current events assignments, and present oral group reports. Students will also learn geography and construct time lines. Advanced students may qualify for CLEP test for World History II. |

German 1 (8th-12th grades)

ARTS CLASSES |
Drama for Middle/High School (8th and up)
Utilizing the text, Everything about Theatre, students will examine the fundamentals of various aspects of drama. Theatre history, improvisation, basic acting, script reading and monologues will be covered. In addition students will learn about stage craft, props, costumes, and make up. Although the course meets during a regularly scheduled class period, there is additional rehearsal time prior to each production. |

Advanced Drama and Theatre Production (High School only)
Instruction in this course builds upon skills developed in the Middle School/ High School Drama course. Activities will enable students to (1) refine their acting techniques, (2) write scripts, (3) constructively evaluate their own performances, and (4) evaluate live performances. Topics in theatre production will also be explored. In addition to regular class time, there is additional rehearsal time prior to each production.

This class is an introductory business course designed for the high school level. Looking at the big picture—the economy—then the class will consider how the individual interacts with the economy. It will compare and contrast U.S. economy with other economic systems Students will then study banking, credit, insurance, property ownership, employment, and business ownership. |

The text will be Introduction to Psychology and Counseling: Christian Perspectives and Synopsis of the course will be to examine the current and historical perspectives in psychology from a Christian perspective. A research paper, as well as other papers, is required. |

Bible 101 (9th-12th grades)
This class will give the student a practical historical overview of the Bible and its message of Redemption. It will also train the student how to study the Bible for themselves, while learning sound principles of interpretation. |

Logic and Philosophical Thinking (10th-12th grades)
This is a basic course in classical logic which then incorporates that logic into an overview of Philosophy. We will explore both structures of logic and philosophical reasoning and concepts. |

Worldview Apologetics (9th-12th grades)
This class will train the student to understand, articulate, promote and defend the Christian Worldview in a secular environment. It will also expose them to competing worldviews and the proper response to them. |

Chess Fundamentals (6th-12th grades)
Beginning students (no prior chess knowledge required) learn the basics and progress through fundamental strategies, tactics, essential openings/endgames, etc. Chess history, instruction, and interactive practice are routinely incorporated. Sportsmanship and respect for others is emphasized. |

Advanced Chess (7th-12th grades)

Robotics (6th-9th grades)
Age limit: Must be no older than 14 by Jan 1, 2009.
Students will learn the basics of building and programming a robot to perform an autonomous task using the Lego™ Mindstorms™ Robotics System. Class will participate as a team in regional and state competitions including out-of-town trips on two Saturdays in December and January. |

HS Robotics (9th-12th grades)
Students will build and program a robot using the Tetrix Robot System plus the Lego Mindstorms NXT controller. The class involves extra hours to prepare for competition and gives students the opportunity to develop areas of cool-headed performance, teamwork, and gracious professionalism. |

The Christian Educational Consortium is a 501c3 private school specifically designed to partner with home educated students in grades 6th–12th. CEC classes meet once a week for 1½ -2 hours on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays from August–May.
