This course is a combination of grammar, literature, and composition taught from a Biblical world view. The Abeka grammar curriculum, as well as various literary selections, will be covered.

This course is a continuation of the English skills covered at the 6th grade level. The Abeka grammar curriculum, as well as more advanced literary selections, will be covered.

English 8 Literature and Composition (8th grade) - Sandra Goodlett

This course is geared for those who have a strong grammar background and desire to develop writing skills through essays, creative writing and a research paper. The text is the Prentice Hall series Silver edition.

English 9 Literature and Composition (9th grade) - Bonnie Erickson

This course will focus on the fundamentals of writing utilizing a portfolio of academic and creative writing, including a research paper. Utilizing the Prentice Hall World Literature text, the class will be an overview of major epics and writings, taught from a Christian world view.

English 10 Literature & Composition (10th grade) - Anna Phillips

Students will analyze classic novels and plays, and develop both creative and academic writing skills, culminating in a research paper and oral presentation. Quarterly Reader’s Journal and writing portfolio are required.

SAT English Preparation/Grammar (10-12th grades) - Anna Phillips

Students will complete the Abeka Grammar text, and the SAT Vocabulary supplement. Students will learn SAT test taking techniques and take practice SAT tests. The Reader’s Journal is required .

Taught from a Christian world view, utilizing the Prentice hall series, this class will conduct an overview of American literature. Students will develop both creative and academic writing skills, culminating in a research paper and oral presentation. Students will read additional American novels throughout the academic year. While preparing for the AP language and Composition exam, this class will conduct an overview of American Literature with an emphasis on late 20th-early 21st century contemporary literature. In addition, students will develop both creative and academic writing skills, culminating in a research paper and oral presentation. Students will read additional American novels throughout the year. Quarterly Reader’s Journal and writing portfolio are required.

Enrollment in math classes are based upon results of a Placement test required of all new students at an additional cost of $10 per student (dates and times scheduled with the instructor). Those students already enrolled in math classes at CEC need not take this test. Their placement is based upon their previous year’s progress.

Financial Peace for the Next Generation by Dave Ramsey

Designed to apply mathematical concepts to real-world life situations, the prerequisite is Algebra 1 with integrated geometry. Weekly discussion in current economic issues.  Independent projects are included.

SAT Math (10-12th grades) - Janet Hadley

This course covers test-taking techniques for the SAT math tests. Students will complete weekly practice problem assignments. There will also be practice SAT tests.

Middle School Science I (6- 7th grades) - Janice Cook

Utilizing the Bob Jones text, this General Science class provides a strong overview with a strong emphasis on the scientific method.

Middle School Science II - Earth and Space Science (7-8th grades) - Janice Cook

Utilizing the Bob Jones text, this Physical Science class gives a strong preparation for high school science courses without the necessity of an advanced mathematical background.

Anatomy/Biology II (10-12th grades) - Sandy Shepard

The prerequisite for this class is Biology I. This class will explore human anatomy as outlined in Jay Wile and Marilyn Shannons's textbook "Human Anatomy: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made." Topics covered will include but are not limited to the following organ systems: Integumentary, Skeletal, Muscle, Nervous, Endocrine, Circulatory, Digestive, and Respiratory Systems. The focus will be on human anatomy with physiology and not comparative anatomy. This class will use "The Anatomy Coloring Book" by Kapit and Elson as well as other laboratory exercises. Dissection of a mammal will be done in the spring semester.

The pre-requisite for this class is Biology I. Utilizing the Apologia text, this class is a hands on look at aquatic life.

Pre-requisite: Must be in or have completed Algebra 2. An in-depth study of the laws of motion, optics, waves, and electrical and magnetic theory. This hands-on course includes an emphasis on laboratory experiments.

All classes are taught from a Christian perspective, utilizing texts, taking notes, tests, and completing projects.

Middle School Ancient History (6-7th grades) - Andrew Porter

This class will provide an overview of world history from Creation through the Middle Ages.

Middle School U.S. History (7-8th grades) - Andrew Porter

This class will survey American history, from the early years of exploration and settlement to the modern era. Utilizes the A Beka curriculum.

World Geography (8-10th grades) - Andrew Porter

Utilizing the Abeka text, this class will cover all aspects of physical, political, and social geography.

Modern American History II (9-12th grades) (CLEP) - Beverly Clark

This class provides an overview of American history from the Industrial Age to 2012. Advanced students may qualify for CLEP test for American History II.

American Government & Current Affairs (Advanced) (11-12th grades) - Beverly Clark

This class covers the branches of government, as well as an in depth analysis of the fall election and current affairs. Students have the option of taking the AP Government exam or the CLEP test.

This is an introductory course of grammar and vocabulary that is geared towards the American student.

Tag! An introduction to the German language that will include grammar, vocabulary, culture, conversation, excerpts from the Martin Luther Bible, and German children’s books, videos taped directly from German T.V. Bis bald!

German 1 is a prerequisite. Advanced German language is offered using the Martin Luther Bible, German children’s books, roll –playing, and a variety of videos taped directly from Deutsche Welle, German T.V.

Italian I (9-12th grades) - Kathy Siegfriedt-Wilson

An introductory class at the high school level. The curriculum will cover grammar, conversation, phonics, and vocabulary. Students will receive an introduction to Italian culture.

Italian I is a prerequisite for the Italian II class. This is a continuation of the grammar, conversation, phonics, and vocabulary in the Italian I class.

Latin I (8-11th grade) - Susan Essa

The beginning Latin class introduces Latin basics. Book 1 emphasis is placed on vocabulary and translation.

Latin II (9-12th grades) - Susan Essa

Latin I is a prerequisite for Latin II and continues the Latin basics of vocabulary and translation.

Spanish I (9-12th grades) - Jeanine Allen

An introductory class at the high school level. The curriculum will cover grammar, conversation, phonics, and vocabulary. Students will receive an introduction to Latin American and Spanish culture.

Spanish II (10-12 grades) - Jeanine Allen

Spanish I is a prerequisite for the Spanish II class. This is a continuation of the grammar, conversation, phonics, and vocabulary in the Spanish I class.

Spanish III (10-12 grades) - Jeanine Allen

Spanish II with a minimum of a B- grade is a prerequisite for the Spanish III class. In this course students develop their communicative competence by interacting orally and in writing, understanding oral and written messages in Spanish, and making oral and written presentations in Spanish. They communicate on a variety of topics at a level commensurate with their study, using more complex structures in Spanish and moving from concrete to more abstract concepts. They comprehend the main ideas of the authentic materials that they listen to and read and are able to identify significant details when the topics are familiar. Spanish is used almost exclusively in the class.

Drama for Middle/High School (8-12th grades) - Kathie Davis

Academically, this class will focus on the basic rudiments of theatre and acting first semester through reading and class discussion. Second semester the class will audition and perform in a musical theater production. In addition to the scheduled class period, there are additional rehearsals prior to each production.

Advanced Drama and Theatre Production (9-12th grades) - Kathie Davis

Academically, the advanced students will read more specific information regarding the technical aspects of theatre and hold leadership roles in Spring Musical committees.

Music Appreciation - Jonathan Pennington

This class fulfills the fine arts credit by teaching the history of music through interaction with the different periods, movements, style, and technique. The class will include field trips to musical events.

Show Choir - Kathie Davis

Extracurricular offered on Tuesdays from 3:45-5:00. There will be a cost of $80 per semester for participation but will only be a one semester commitment. In addition there will be a costume fee which will be minimal. Students will perform both for the CEC family and other venues as well.

Middle School Bible  (6-8th  grades) - Jonathan Pennington

Over the course of three years this course provides an interactive and engaging survey of both the Old Testament (2 years) and New Testament (1 year). Students may take any or all of the versions in any order. For the school year 2010-11 we will cover OT Survey I.

Bible 101 (9-12th grades) - Greg Siegfriedt-Wilson

This class will give the student a practical historical overview of the Bible and its message of Redemption. It will also train the student how to study the Bible for themselves, while learning sound principles of interpretation.

Logic and Philosophical Thinking (10-12th grades) - Greg Siegfriedt-Wilson

This is a basic course in classical logic which then incorporates that logic into an overview of Philosophy. We will explore both structures of logic and philosophical reasoning and concepts.

Missions –Missio Dei (11-12th grades) - Angela Zimmerman

The term missio Dei means literally “the mission of God." This course provides opportunities for students to explore and engage in God’s mission as the foundation for the story of the Bible, as the lens through which we all relate to others cross-culturally, as the centerpiece of history, and as the driving force for living “missionally" in whatever context we find ourselves. The course invites students to enter into a deeper understanding of God through joining Him on the adventure of a lifetime.

Worldview Apologetics (9-12th grades)-Greg Siegfriedt-Wilson

This class will train the student to understand, articulate, promote and defend the Christian Worldview in a secular environment. It will also expose them to competing worldviews and the proper response to them.

Career Development (11-12th grades) - Bev Sivert

Taught from a Christian perspective this class is designed to help students figure out their strengths and passions, in order to help them determine God’s plan for them.

Introduction to Computers (9-12th grades) - W.J. Patterson

This class is an introductory course to computers that will teach the elements of Microsoft software.

Computer Programming (9-12th grades) - W.J. Patterson

This course is an intermediate computer course in computer languages and computer logic.

Journalism –Susan Essa

An introductory course focusing on journalistic style and principles. Students will produce a school newsletter each semester.

Psychology (10-12th grades) - John Abel

The text will be Introduction to Psychology and Christian Counseling: Christian Perspectives and Synopsis of the course will be to examine the current and historical perspectives in psychology from a Christian perspective. A research paper, as well as other papers, is required.

Advanced Psychology (10-12th grades) - John Abel

Pre-requisite: Psychology. Students will take a more advanced look at the field of psychology from a Christian perspective and prepare for the AP Psychology examination. A research paper, as well as other papers, is required.

Speech/Communications (9-12th grades) - Sandra Goodlett

This class covers the basics of speech techniques, covering both the theory and practice of speech. Confidence building techniques in human interactions are interspersed throughout the course.
